The problem arose when I uninstalled the current driver and restarted the computer so that the modem could be detected, but Windows 98 saw the PnP modem as a "PCI multimedia audio device" and "PCI input device" and asked for the drivers for both devices, instead of seing it as "SM56 PCI Motorola".

I've just installed W98SE onto the above Dell PC, and I installed the chipset drivers first and then others but it keeps finding a PCI Input Device on every boot-up. This is driving me bonkers as I don't understand what this input controller actually is. I've tried loads of things, including the 'input controllers'
